Valuation

The estimated cost of a DanceScript project is based on several variables. The following must be taken into consideration when determining the timeline of the project and the associated costs.

  • Number of Dancers
  • Duration of the Choreography
  • Complexity of the Staging

Note: The number of pages necessary to script the dance is determined by the amount of information that can be legibly placed on a single page. Choreographies involving numerous dancers and complex choreography can sometimes require a separate page for as little as 2–3 seconds of movement.

The DanceScript pilot project, The Traitor (José Limón Dance Foundation), is an example of a medium-complexity project. This script involved 250 hours of work and has an estimated value of $15K. The Master Reference Video of the work was 21m30s in duration, and the final script was 144 pages (6.7 pages per minute). Visit the Product page to see excerpts from this Proof of Product.

Documentation Video Shoot
The DanceScript process requires a Master Reference Video that accurately represents the choreographer’s spatial intent. If a legible, unedited wide shot is not currently available, a Documentation Video Shoot can be arranged. A centered, high-angle vantage point is best for the video camera to accurately represent stage composition. This stationary wide shot allows for a consistent Stage Grid Overlay throughout the video of the work. A video shoot conducted specifically for the scripting process can include optimal lighting for the video and costuming to support the ability to identify each dancer in the cast. For added clarity, a spatial grid can be taped on the stage floor.

Videography Services (includes videography, stage prep, file transfer, editing)
  • 3-Hour Video Shoot (multiple recordings of choreography under 10 minutes in duration) $500
  • 4-Hour Video Shoot (multiple recordings of choreography 10– 20 minutes in duration) $600
  • 5-Hour Video Shoot (multiple recordings of choreography under 20–30 minutes in duration) $700
  • Plus all Travel Expenses (airfare or mileage, hotel, meals)
* The materials cost of marking the stage with a grid using gaff tape is to be covered by the choreographer/company.
